GETTING TO WATCH AN EGG HATCH IS HARDER THAN IT SOUNDS. Eggs need to be kept very warm, usually under a heated lamp (or under a bird!). Visiting a farm to see a chicken’s egg hatch could be the best option.

Visit a farm on an open day – like Heeley City Farm or Whirlow Hall Farm – phone ahead to see if there are any eggs due to hatch.
(If it doesn’t hatch you can always make a fried egg!)
